2001 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner Xtracab TRD Off-Road | 301K Miles | Western Truck, Rust-Free Frame | Clean Title
There's a reason that meme about Toyota "recalling" 1995–2004 Tacomas because owners should have upgraded by now gets so many laughs. These trucks simply refuse to quit. This one is living proof.
Why the PreRunner earned its following
When Toyota introduced the PreRunner, early fans loved that it gave you the lifted, 4x4-style stance and suspension without the added weight, complexity, and fuel cost of a transfer case. Owners back then often said it was the perfect "desert truck": tough enough for dirt roads and washes, simple enough to keep running forever. Enthusiasts also praised the TRD Off-Road package, the bulletproof reputation of Toyota's engines from this era, and the fact that you could beat on these trucks for decades and they'd keep going. Twenty-five years later, they were right.
A Western truck, not a rust-belt survivor
This generation of Tacoma is famous for frame rust problems, almost entirely in snowy, salted-road states. This truck has spent its whole life in the sunny West. The undercarriage is still free of corrosion, which is getting harder and harder to find on first-gen Tacomas.
301,000 miles, well proven to say the least
High miles, yes, but cared-for miles. Previous owners babied it mechanically and ran it on AMSoil products. It still rides and drives great, and the AC blows cold, which matters here in Arizona.
Honest disclosure
This truck has lived a working life. Its history includes some bumper damage reports and minor mishaps, and it shows some cosmetic wear, including marks on the tailgate. There have been no structural repairs, and it has always had a clean title.
